Tonight, I am preparing what well might be my last Weight Watcher lesson. The topic? Positive Self-Talk. This is such an important attitude tool, not only in weight loss, but in so many areas of our lives. Week after week I hear (and say) things like “I really blew it this week” “I just don’t have any will-power.” “I just keep losing the same 5 lbs over and over again.”
Thoughts are very powerful things, and it has been said that you move towards what you picture in your mind. In other words, I am, not only what I eat, but what I repeat.
I tend to pay attention to weight loss programs and articles that I come across, and tonight I watched a program on the Worldwide Weight epidemic (already can’t remember what the show was called). They approached it from an interesting angle. In times past, we had to work much harder, physically to accomplish our day to day activities. Now, we have all of these time and labor saving conveniences. Don’t get me wrong; noone is taking away my dishwasher, washing machine, vacuum cleaner or car without a major, major fight. But communities, like the Netherlands, where people walk or bike more, have much lower evidences of obesity. Places where fast food is creeping in are starting to see obesity numbers to rival the good old USA.
A model community is being designed somewhere in Canada that will encourage walking, biking, hiking and healthy eating by making those things attractive and convenient. It looked great: I’m ready to move there!
Just wish I could remember the name of the place…............
