How to burn .iso disc images from Mac OS X

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2003

I had some difficulty finding out how to burn .iso disk images with my Mac, so I will post up here how I did it in hopes that others will find it useful. It’s really easy, but I would never have figured it out without guidance, and I never rely on the built in help, whoever made the current help system for Jaguar should have horrible things done to him/her.

Without further ado here are instructions for burning an .iso disk image:

1) Download or construct the disk image as you see fit
2) Know where the disk image is located on your hard drive
3) open the Disk Copy program located in the /Applications/Utilities folder
4) from the file menu select burn image or press Command-B
5) select the image to burn, and click the burn button
6) insert a blank disk in the CD tray, and close it
7) click burn

That’s it, I hope you are as thrilled as I am. Until next time kids remember: “Can’t never could, and you ain’t gonna learn any younger.”

In OS X 10.3, I was not able to find any Disk Copy, but Disk Utility
with the Images | Burn… menu seems to work fine.

Thanks for the comment, sounds like I probably need to update this for Panther.  (and then for Tiger again soon) I’ll try to get around to this soon.  In the meantime, as Aahz says, the problem is now called Disk Utility.

How do you burn the image of a dvd onto the hard drive in iso format?  I’d like to burn my mac osx disk 1 onto the hard drive so I can transport it to another machine which doesn’t have a dvd drive…

I haven’t had occasion to do that yet so I’m not sure.  Anyone else know?

Under “Tiger” you use applications--utilities--disk utility-- then click on the big “burn” button, and you`ll be prompted for an image…

Why does everyone say mac is so simple (>_

Or you can drag an image into the side tray in disk utility, make sure it is selected, and then click burn.  It is only hard to figure out the first time you do it.

    Thanks!
