Good Times

Hello Everybody.
I just returned from a fun-filled, action packed weekend in Nevada and California. I expected to check the Duo site to see some exciting new posts from Bob, or some exciting new comments from the rest of you, but its the same as when I left it. I expected, at least, to have UB make fun of me for my double comment.
My sister invited me to go along on this 4-day trip with her and her son Michael. We flew to Reno and met my brother Dave, wife Jane, and their 21 yr old son Charley. They had all kinds of fun surprises planned for us! We spent the night in Reno at Harrah’s and had an AWESOME buffet. We also saw a comedian magician and a singing quartet, consisting of former member of the singing groups the Platters, Coasters, Drifters and some others I think. They did a lot of old nostalgia songs, mostly MoTown.
Our house is still up in the air, but will hopefully be move-back-inable soon. My husband’s brother & wife are very kindly providing us with a home in our transient state, but I think more than a week’s worth of overnight guests could get old pretty quickly. They do let me use their computer, or you wouldn’t be getting this provacative new posting.
Well, there is lots more, but I’m tired and this is kind of boring, so I’ll tell you about the rest later and I’ll try, as Emeril says “To spice it up a little.”

Hi, UltraMom! Well, let’s see. What’s been going on around here?

MJ finished an important web project for the Australian Embassy’s arts festival; I got glasses so I can see what I’m reading without hurting my eyes; UB has a big presentation on web standards tomorrow. Tokyo is finally experiencing its usual hot-humid summer weather and we’re all cranky. (OK *I* am cranky from the heat and I just assume everyone else is.)

Nobody’s going on any fun summer trips or vacations. All of our houses are firmly attached to the ground. And not one of us has become a renowned poet or received Bookworm Deluxe as a gift. (UltraDad, I’m sorry for introducing that game to your household)

You definitely have us beat on the excitement levels!

Tokyo’s SOOOO boring. Or maybe it’s just us…

So good to hear from you Kristen. Yes, when you put it THAT way, my life sounds very exciting, huh? It really isn’t all glamour and glitz, however. Hope all your projects are going well. One son is “home” (well, at Uncle Chuck’s with the rest of us) for a few days, and the renowned poet laureate of Howe is on a BIG fire near Duboise, Idaho where he is stationed. Right now a John Wayne movie is playing on the television (again). Perhaps this makes me un-American, but I really do NOT like John Wayne. This is totally incomprehensible to my husband. Jim has learned a bunch of really cool magic card tricks, so I’m glad his summer has been productive.
    Stay in touch, y’all.

Kristen is right, UltraMom. Nothing special happening here in Tokyo.  It is very hot and humid. There are occasional typhoons which always manage to give Tokyo a miss. I will be taking my “summer” vacation next month so I will be stuck here this month with nothing to look forward to except one wine-tasting event.

However, my new apartment is quite pretty and has me busy with shopping for it. Hope your house will be reattached to the ground soon.

Well, my house has now been set down on its foundation, and I am a little bit closer to being back in. My in-laws have been more than gracious, and being homeless wasn’t half as bad as I expected, however.
I have a knotty problem for you computer experts; my sister-in-law, Joy, gets her e-mail through a provider called “earth link”. She is only able to check her mail thru the Netscape browser, which on this computer is slow and ponderous. Explorer is much cleaner and faster, but when she tries to check her mail thru it she gets this error message: (thru Outlook)
The add-in “C:Program FilesNet2PhoneLaunchNet2Phone32.dll” could not be iinstalled or loaded. Unable to load “C:ProgramFilesNet2PhoneLaunchNet2Phone.” You may be out of memory, out of system resources or missing a .dll file.

I guess she is missing a file she needs? Anyway if you have any ideas, let me know.

    UltraMom,

First of all don’t you mean “my sister-in-law, UltraJoy?”

Socond the error she is getting is quite strange, it seems that starting Outlook (is it really Outlook, or is it Outlook Express?, those are two different programs) is trying to launch an Internet Phone program called Net2Phone.  The first thing that I would recommend that she do is download Spybot - Search & Destroy and scan her computer with it.  There are some really nasty programs out there that can hijack your browser and mail programs and also transmit information about your computer usage to interested parties.  Spybot helps to find and remove these, and can vaccinate your computer against getting some of them in the first place.  If this doesn’t work, let me know which “Outlook” Aunt UltraJoy is using, and I will see what else I can come up with.

    UltraMom,

I just did a google search, and got a little bit more information about the problem Aunt Joy may be having.  It appears that she is probably using Outlook, and probably has Net2Phone installed as an add-in.  If she checks her outlook add-in settings, she will probably find an entry for Net2Phone there.  She should remove that, and hopefully everything should be sunshine and rainbows again.  If not, let me know, and I’ll see what I can do about showing her how to remove the registry entry that may be causing the problem.

An alternative would be to install Net2Phone, but I’m guessing she doesn’t want that.

Jean, thank you for that answer, removing net2phone from outlook worked perfectly for me with those instructions and I no longer have that error when starting it up.
