Protect your civil rights

I know I said I wouldn’t be posting, but i can’t resist this one. via This Modern World

This little city (pop.: 16,000) has become the first in the nation to pass an ordinance that outlaws voluntary compliance with the Patriot Act.

“I call this a nonviolent, preemptive attack,” said David Meserve, the freshman City Council member who drafted the ordinance with the help of the Arcata city attorney, city manager and police chief.

Story.

This is the kind of action that allows me to continue to hold out hope for America. I love the people of America, but man do I despise the regime currently in power. America, don’t be fooled by Bush’s claims at christianity. Just because he is a christian doesn’t mean he has all or even very many of the right ideas for running the country. Enough thinking that you have to support everything the “President” does or says because your brother or sister or cousin is currently risking their life in the Middle East. Realize that hiding all of his actions behind the facade of saving America from 9/11 type events should be offensive. Don’t let this administration play the entire country for fools. Take a few minutes to research what they have done and are doing on a source other than CNN or Fox and see if you aren’t just a bit concerned. For one thing (related to this story) don’t let them turn it into “1985” by 2005. One last thing, please please please use the ballot in numbers that are uncheatable to oust this Thief in chief in the next election.

thank you for reading

    Swamped

I have two projects, one of which is huge, to finish by the end of this month. On top of that, I’ve just come down with a pretty nasty cold, which has me whiney with a sore throat and headache, not really wanting to eat much. I think we’ve all gotten used to the immense volume of material that Johnny contributes to this site. Put all of this together, and I think it’s a safe bet that this site will be pretty quiet for a while. Bummer too, I have a whole bunch of stuff I want to post about.

I went to Design Festa, and got an idea for a new project that I want to start (like I don’t have too many already). I guess I’ll be writing about that later though. For now it’s back to work.

    Difference in strategy

Gary writes: If I have nothing to say, I will not post. Promise!

I on the other hand solemnly promise to generally have nothing to say, and post anyway.

... and you’ll like it! you will!!

    My Request for a howto

Since I did a stupidly simple howto for the iMac, i will now request a howto from a generous reader. How can i set up my machine so that it automatically mounts the Windows and Linux machines it is networked with on startup?

Your help is appreciated, I know I don’t show it sometimes, but it is. I’m sorry I took you for granted

switching my imac from japanese to english

This was a search I received on Google today, and although the person probably didn’t find what they were looking for I’ll give you a quick how-to here, and maybe someone will find it useful. My system is currently in English, and this site is not currently encoded to display japanese so I will write in romanized Japanese when Japanese is necessary, and it will probably be a little bit off. so without further ado, here is how to switch my (your) imac from Japanese to English:

    1) Click the system preferences (light switch looking) icon in your dock
    2) If you only have a few icons, click the light switch icon again in the new window to show all (maybe subete wo hyouji or something like that)
    3) Click the blue flag icon (gengo I think)
    4) locate English in the top list of languages (nihongo should be at the top now. Click and hold the mouse button when your pointer is over English, keeping the mouse button held, drag English to the top of the list.)
    5) Reboot your system
    6) away you go

    He must be stopped!

The war isn’t even over yet, and already we are hearing about evil Syria, and their weapons of mass destruction. I don’t recall Syria surrendering to us, and agreeing to submit to U.S. disarmament demands after the gulf war. This is climbing into the increasingly unbelievable, and I truly believe that comparisons between Bush and Hitler are becoming more and more apt.

I think the real danger here is Bush and his weapons of mass distraction. If he can keep the public pumped up on patriotism then maybe they won’t notice that they work 18 hours a day and still can’t live comfortably.

It is scary when The Onion is not very much more far-fetched than the truth.

    Oriko Leaderboard:

    (oriko means good kid)

    Johnny 95.5
Its this big guy's turn for the spotlight. Just finished chatting with him on Skype and was struck, as always, by his insight and humor. Get well, Baby. Don't let that cold get the best of you. Take some Zicam.
    UltraGirl 95.4
This girl has been lately leaving insightful comments on my posts, a move likely to ensure her a good ranking on the Oriko Leaderboard. Thanks, UltraGirl. I too am glad my camera returned from the Center of the Earth. And do give those cranberries another try.
    UltraBob 95.3
k Has been a little busy, but hopefully that's good news for Akatombo Media. We keep missing each other on Skype, but we'll figure it out one of these days. Thanks for the comments. Someday I may finish writing about the trip!
    Jim 95.2
Am a little disappointed cause I thought I was going to get to see this guy next weekend at Aunt Debi's wedding. Now he's not coming after all, which is probably a wise choice and all, but still drops him a bit in the Leaderboard ratings til I get over it. Give me another day or two. And he DID make me and UltraDad a super-awesome Anniversary Card with a fun guessing game. We're still waiting to hear....who won?
    Heather 95.1
Hasn't been leaving comments, and refuses to share her taco dip recipe, but she did send UltraDad and me an absolutely gorgeous Anniversary card and cash for a dinner out, which we have already made use of. Thanks, Honey.
    Polly 88.0
I'm going to leave this kitty up here ahead of the dogs for now. They are still barking at her at every juncture, and as far as I can see, the only thing she does to instigate it is to exist.
    Murphy the Wonderdog 87.9
Doesn't bark at Polly as much as his little demon-brother, but does bark at said brother way too much. Murphy, you are the (relatively speaking) "Big Dog". If you want the chewbone Rowdy has, don't bark at him; take it away from him!
    Rowdy 75.0
Still too much barking, and a little too much pooping and peeing in the house. Is starting to learn a few tricks, but is not as clever as Murphy in that way.
