Congratulations to my friend Yuko who just became a first time grandmother. She looks way to young for that to be possible:

Keven at bastish.net posted recently about Macs from a Windows users view as i have, all of you Mac users should go over, and explain to him why you prefer that Mac over Windows. I’m really interested to know too, feel free to comment either place, we are both checking out each other’s blogs fairly frequently it seems.

I really enjoy messing around with this new machine, but it sure is a distraction. I’ve got to get some work done!

I just remembered that we hadn’t paid for Moveable Type yet. So I paid them, and got our Recently Updated Key.

I’ve been wanting one for a long time. I’ve heard rave reviews by anyone who has ever tried Mac OS 10.2 on a machine fast enough to handle it, and many diehard Windows people who I respect for their knowledge have been switching over at least partially. Also the new iMac looks extremely cool and doesn’t take up a lot of space on the desktop. Until now though, I just wasn’t able to justify the expense (they aren’t at all cheap). As anyone who is a regular reader of the site knows, I have started a web design/development and consulting company called Akatombo Media, and I need to be able to test my designs on as many different browsers as I can. I have a couple of Windows machines, and you this site is served from a Linux server in my office so Mac was the missing link.
I’ve just barely gotten started on it, and don’t really now my way around yet, but overall I’m pretty satisfied so far. Never one to focus on the positive too much however, here is a list of the few complaints I have so far:
The little speakers that come with the machine do have pretty good sound, and I really love how crisp text looks on the screen. I’m really looking forward to playing around with this machine and learning how to use it. I suspect that many of my gripes will go away with experience. Please write and let me know what resources you recommend I look at, what software I should try out, an whatever else you like. I haven’t abandoned the Windows platform, and have no plans to do so although sometimes I would like to, so please no e-mail about how much of an idiot I am for switching. I haven’t switched.
Oh yeah, I really love the eject key on the keyboard too, that is a fantastic idea that wouldn’t work that hot on my dual drive Windows machine.
Well that’s it for my first takes on the Mac, post topics in the works: I become co-leader of the newly founded PHP SIG of the Tokyo PC Users Group; my first hanami experience in Japan

GOOD NEWS: I mentioned in an earlier post the Always On Poll measuring support for George Bush Vs. Michael Moore. At the time I wrote, Bush was winning, but now Michael Moore has a small lead. I keep getting links in from the Always On last 10 referrers list, so it seems that a fair number of you have gone and voted, and that we made a difference. It means nothing I guess, but it makes me happy.
If you haven’t voted yet, go ahead and go do it now. I won’t tell you how you should vote, but if I was you I’d vote for the side with moore m’s in it. ![]()
