Objecting to gay marriage has nothing to do with the time period we’re in. I think its wrong, and obviously I’m in the majority.

The majority of people also used to believe that the sun revolved around the earth (the center of the universe), that the world was flat, that bleeding was a great medical cure, that bathing/sanitation was a good way to get sick, and that women did not have the mental acumen for such tasks as science, math, and voting.

Just because I am objected to gay marriage does not mean that I hate gays. I really couldn’t care less what people do in their own bedrooms. I simply believe that marriage was instituted by God to be between a man and a woman.

I must say Jessica that although the tone of the criticism you’ve received here is more acidic a tone that I might have chosen, I don’t see anyone attacking your intelligence.  You’ve been accused of being narrow-minded and (indirectly) ignorant, but no one has attacked your intelligence.

I assume that 2 of the commenters here, are gay.  I think they have the right to be outraged that you don’t think they merit the same rights that you have to have your relationship recognized by society.  I do not understand what skin it is off your nose if two gay people who love each other marry.  As far as I can tell it affects you exactly not at all.  Put yourself in their shoes for a moment, would you be ok with it if Idaho passed a law saying that you and Jim could not get married?

I think it is almost a more backwards opinion if you don’t hate gay people.  If you don’t have a problem with people being in a gay relationship, what possible justification do you have for not wanting them to marry?  Or do you think, as you said above, that homosexual relationships are purely about what happens in the bedroom?

You didn’t have to comment on that video, there was no reason why you needed to give your opinion on a silly video.  I hope you’ll give some consideration to the opposing viewpoints now that you’ve stirred things up and gotten “The Gay” all over my website.  EWWWWWWW

by the way, is your impending marriage simply to be about what you do in the bedroom with your husband-to-be? or is it about more than than? try and wrap your brain around that concept, wouldja, Jessitoodle? It’s a big deal, not just about doin’ it. It’s about commitment, and family, and legal issues, and sharing, and homes, and more than “what people do in their own bedrooms.” On behalf of gays everywhere, we’re thrilled that you don’t hate us. Actually, that’s a bold-faced fib. We couldn’t care less. Just realize that gay people getting married really doesn’t have any impact on your life, but preventing us from getting married will have a big impact on it. Just wait and see.

Hey now, don’t be attacking “us Americans”.  There are plenty of us Americans who don’t believe in limiting people’s personal rights based on their sexuality.

Indirect attacks are still attacks, and I simply commented on a video that you, UltraBob, posted. My opinions are just different than most people who get on here, which tends to spark a discussion. Discussions are an excellent tool for getting to know people because they often put people on their worst behavior. Thankfully, UltraBob, you and I use good old fashioned manners even when we completely disagree.

Almost all the non-Americans I know in Japan are exceedingly happy with the election results. They have taken a real interest and are happy that there is a different point of view coming to the White House. Many have congratulated me. It is strange. Good, but strange.

The first election that I vote in, and, for the most part, paid attention to turns out to be a historical election. We’ve got out first black President. I’m sure you all know that I wanted McCain to win, but now I have the opportunity to tell my kids all about it when they have to learn it in history class. Now we just have to see if Obama can live up to his promises.

I voted McCain.  I don’t believe Obama can keep all of the promises he has made. Nonetheless, I hope has a successful administration.  We will know a lot in the first 100 days.

Pretty sure NO President ever has or will keep all the promises they make.  Partly because that is just the nature of politics, partly because it is not all dependent on them, have to get the legislative branch to go along.  That said, hopefully this coming four years will be better than the last four.
