I didn’t like this video. I don’t think that gay marriage should be allowed.

Well of course you don’t, but shouldn’t you get back to churning butter, baking all day, and trying to avoid witches, 15th century woman?

Jack Black, what can I say, he’s funny…

I thought republicans wanted government to stay out of private lives?

  • on December 5th, 2008 02:02 AM UltraJessica said:

Objecting to gay marriage has nothing to do with the time period we’re in. I think its wrong, and obviously I’m in the majority.

  • on December 5th, 2008 11:13 AM Gabriel (Los Angeles) said:

The majority of people also used to believe that the sun revolved around the earth (the center of the universe), that the world was flat, that bleeding was a great medical cure, that bathing/sanitation was a good way to get sick, and that women did not have the mental acumen for such tasks as science, math, and voting.

Glad you are doing your best to keep that tradition alive sweety!

  • on December 5th, 2008 11:23 AM UltraBob (Zushi, Japan) said:

Fine, just don’t come crying to me when YOU want to get gay married.

  • on December 5th, 2008 11:39 AM Es El Queso (San Franf***ingcisco) said:

Yay!!!! Bigotry is so trendy cool. Let’s impose our backwards, hate-filled views on EVERYBODY and deny people their rights like it’s the middle ages all over again. Are you trying to sound ignorant, UltraJessica, or just repel potential friends?

  • on December 5th, 2008 11:44 AM mjds said:

I’m sorry UltraJessica that you don’t seem to have a sense of humour or empathy for people just trying to lead their lives. I guess you won’t mind if we pop around and tell you how to live your life then?

You’ll agree to do what we say if we are in the majority right?

  • on December 5th, 2008 12:03 PM Es El Queso (San Franfreakingcisco) said:

by the way, my dearest Jessica, would you like it if I was to vote on whom you were to marry, too? Or if you were allowed to. Right now I would be inclined to vote “no” to protect your groom-to-be from your simplenarrow-mindedness.

  • on December 5th, 2008 02:38 PM UltraJessica said:

I am not personally attacking anybody or their intelligence because their opinions differ from my own, and I would appreciate it if everybody would return the courtesy.

Just because I am objected to gay marriage does not mean that I hate gays. I really couldn’t care less what people do in their own bedrooms. I simply believe that marriage was instituted by God to be between a man and a woman.

  • on December 5th, 2008 02:56 PM Es El Queso (San Franfreakingcisco) said:

you seem to think you have the right to have a say in my civil rights and personal freedoms? guess again, Jessiekins. My right to determine who I choose to spend my life with has NOTHING to do with you, so butt out, honey… until then you get the respect you deserve, or, in terms you might better relate to, GET IN THE KITCHEN WHERE GOD DECREES YOU WOMENFOLK BELONG AND MAKE ME SOME PIE!

  • on December 5th, 2008 03:00 PM UltraBob (Zushi, Japan) said:

I must say Jessica that although the tone of the criticism you’ve received here is more acidic a tone that I might have chosen, I don’t see anyone attacking your intelligence.  You’ve been accused of being narrow-minded and (indirectly) ignorant, but no one has attacked your intelligence.

I assume that 2 of the commenters here, are gay.  I think they have the right to be outraged that you don’t think they merit the same rights that you have to have your relationship recognized by society.  I do not understand what skin it is off your nose if two gay people who love each other marry.  As far as I can tell it affects you exactly not at all.  Put yourself in their shoes for a moment, would you be ok with it if Idaho passed a law saying that you and Jim could not get married?

I think it is almost a more backwards opinion if you don’t hate gay people.  If you don’t have a problem with people being in a gay relationship, what possible justification do you have for not wanting them to marry?  Or do you think, as you said above, that homosexual relationships are purely about what happens in the bedroom?

You didn’t have to comment on that video, there was no reason why you needed to give your opinion on a silly video.  I hope you’ll give some consideration to the opposing viewpoints now that you’ve stirred things up and gotten “The Gay” all over my website.  EWWWWWWW raspberry

  • on December 5th, 2008 03:04 PM Es El Queso (San Franfreakingcisco) said:

by the way, is your impending marriage simply to be about what you do in the bedroom with your husband-to-be? or is it about more than than? try and wrap your brain around that concept, wouldja, Jessitoodle? It’s a big deal, not just about doin’ it. It’s about commitment, and family, and legal issues, and sharing, and homes, and more than “what people do in their own bedrooms.” On behalf of gays everywhere, we’re thrilled that you don’t hate us. Actually, that’s a bold-faced fib. We couldn’t care less. Just realize that gay people getting married really doesn’t have any impact on your life, but preventing us from getting married will have a big impact on it. Just wait and see.

  • on December 5th, 2008 03:14 PM mjds said:

Marriage is a legal state - and these bans mean that people have less rights because of their sexuality.

You Americans are always going on about your precious rights - but then only if they fit your concept of the “norm” I guess.

  • on December 5th, 2008 03:18 PM UltraBob (Zushi, Japan) said:

Hey now, don’t be attacking “us Americans”.  There are plenty of us Americans who don’t believe in limiting people’s personal rights based on their sexuality.

  • on December 5th, 2008 03:23 PM UltraJessica said:

Indirect attacks are still attacks, and I simply commented on a video that you, UltraBob, posted. My opinions are just different than most people who get on here, which tends to spark a discussion. Discussions are an excellent tool for getting to know people because they often put people on their worst behavior. Thankfully, UltraBob, you and I use good old fashioned manners even when we completely disagree.

  • on December 5th, 2008 03:31 PM UltraBob (Zushi, Japan) said:

Thank you for noticing my impeccable gentlemanly behavior *polishes cufflink*

That being said, no one directly OR indirectly attacked your intelligence.  They called you narrow-minded and ignorant.  No one called you stupid.

Can we move on to the part where you explain how your acceptance of homosexual relationships and your anti gay marriage stance live side-by-side in harmony?

now was I less than civil? shame on me, that must be because I am less than a full human being or something.

On Comment Moderation

As some of you might have noticed, we received a couple of comment spam last weekend.  If anyone noticed it was probably Chenoa as she may have received notification e-mails that someone had responded to her comments.  I don’t like the idea of legitimate posters on our site receiving spam messages by e-mail from our website, but I do love the comment notification features.  I hope I’ve reached a solution that will give us the best of both worlds.

Anyone is still allowed to comment on the website.  You don’t have to be a member of the site, and you don’t have to give your e-mail address (your e-mail address will never be displayed on the site though so please don’t feel there is a good reason not to).  You can continue to fill out the longer form and comment on the site as you have been (if that’s how you’ve been doing it), but your comments will not show up on the site right away.  They will show up when we get around to going in and verifying that they are legitimate comments.  In the parlance of the medium, your comments will be moderated.

The registration option is of course still available, and when you are logged into the site your comment form is shorter and easier to use.  All you have to do is type your message and go.  Even after registering and verifying the registration by e-mail however, your comments will still be moderated, but, and this is the nice part, as soon as we recognize that you are a legitimate commenter, we will move you into an elite member group which faces no such restrictions.  If you are already a commenter in good standing (Chenoa, Tracey, Aunt Debi) you are already a member of this exclusive club.  Also if you are, or ever have been, an author on the site (Johnny, UltraMom, UltraGirl, UltraBob, Jessica, Fran, Jean) you also face no such restriction.  Your comments will cruise on through unhindered, unfettered, and dare I say ultrarelevant?  No I daren’t

This should ensure that you never again receive an e-mail notification because a parasite who isn’t a friend of the site replied to one of your comments.  All of you parasites who are friends of the site, fear not you continue unrestricted.

Sore deha…

Ridin’ on a horsey…

We went to see Yabusame on Sunday at Zushi beach.  If you want to know what is Yabusame, Wikipedia will tell you.  I just want to share the exciting adventure Linc had with you.

Linc helps videotape Yabusame.  Look at his little hand on the camera.

One of the horses

Focus on the target.  You can do it, Kensei!!

Nice work!

That was awesome!

Obama is like Hitler, but I’m not comparing him to Hitler

I thought Chenoa especially would get a kick out of the last segment of this, as a result of her facebook fight club.  I’m not at liberty to talk about it though, the first rule and all, you understand.

The first election that I vote in, and, for the most part, paid attention to turns out to be a historical election. We’ve got out first black President. I’m sure you all know that I wanted McCain to win, but now I have the opportunity to tell my kids all about it when they have to learn it in history class. Now we just have to see if Obama can live up to his promises.

Pretty sure NO President ever has or will keep all the promises they make.  Partly because that is just the nature of politics, partly because it is not all dependent on them, have to get the legislative branch to go along.  That said, hopefully this coming four years will be better than the last four.

Oriko Leaderboard:

(oriko means good kid)

Linc 99.9

LInc of course! He is utterly adorable and has done nothing to offend me, which is not always true of my own offspring. Plus, he is now cleverly eating solid food and getting new teeth! What a smart boy.

UltraBob 98.9

Fairly Good Dad. Enabled me to videochat with the ever-awesome Linc today. Unfortunately, cannot give him a perfect score, because of lavish candy demands. Sorry.

UltraGirl 96.8

The mother of my favorite grandchild, and by all accounts, an awesome one.

Johnny 91.5

Chats with me once in a while on Skype. This is the kid I call when I’m feeling a little down. Whether it’s telling corny jokes or indulging in a gender-bashing fest, he can always make me laugh.

Jim 90.6

Had lots of fun with this guy in SLC last weekend. He spent half of his Saturday with two ‘mature’ women (UltraMom and Ima) and was charming and lots of fun. He graciously accepted Ima’s offer of homemade spaghetti leftovers. What a good son.

Heather 89.3

I don’t get to talk to this girl NEARLY enough, but she did email me an invite to a Women’s Seminar she will be attending in Pocatello. Unfortunately it is the weekend of my big Weight Watcher meeting. I miss you, honey!

Rowdy 82

Going on third week of wearing a plastic cone on his head to prevent scratching open the sore on this face, poor little guy. UDad says it is his Halloween Costume: Funnel Man,,,,,,er Pup

Murphy 77

Has no plastic cone on his head; unlike Rowdy, does not spend first 5 minutes of each and every walk jumping and grabbing his own (and others) leashes. Has developed a rather cute trick of standing in the kitchen and barking when he wants a treat. After a false start, am determined to not give in to his extortion.

Polly 62

Dropping to the bottom. She has ruined another couch with her lethal claws, despite huge scratching post prominently displayed (and largely splayed) in the vicinity.
